Independent
cognitive assessments

A cognitive assessment looks at how you think and process information. At Assessment Squared, our psychologists conduct independent cognitive assessments for adults. The results give a clear picture of your cognitive strengths. They also show areas where you may find things more difficult.

Cognitive testing covers different areas of thinking. These can include memory, reasoning, language and problem solving. It may also look at how quickly you take in and work with new information.

People seek a cognitive assessment for many reasons. You may need one as evidence for an NDIS access request or plan review. It can also help when a diagnosis is being considered. Some people need a report for legal or insurance purposes.

What to expect: Independent cognitive assessments

An independent assessment is conducted by a psychologist who isn’t involved in the person’s ongoing therapy. This separation matters when a report needs to stand on its own. Legal firms request these assessments for matters such as personal injury claims and other proceedings. Support coordinators and NDIS participants also use them as evidence for access requests and plan reviews.

The assessment starts with a conversation about the person’s background and the purpose of the referral. They then complete a series of standardised tasks. Afterwards, the referrer receives a written report that explains the results.
