Academic Assessments

Academic Assessments

At Assessment Squared, we bring extensive experience and support to help parents and teachers create positive changes in the classroom.

Our academic and educational assessments delve into a student’s cognitive abilities and learning style, while identifying any potential obstacles to academic success. These comprehensive evaluations, conducted by a psychologist, offer valuable insights into a student’s strengths and challenges, guiding the development of tailored educational strategies and support plans to maximise learning outcomes.

We offer personalised recommendations to assist parents and teachers in managing a child’s learning both at home and within the school environment.

What is an academic assessment?

An academic assessment evaluates a child’s abilities across various capabilities, including oral language, basic reading, reading comprehension and fluency, written expression, mathematics, and math fluency. This process uses objective measurement tools to pinpoint areas of academic strength and areas needing improvement. The results offer insight into a child’s skills relative to peers of the same age or grade level.

Educational assessments for children are often recommended after cognitive evaluations to determine if a child is gifted in a specific learning area or may have a learning difficulty or disability.

An educational assessment can help:

Determine a child’s level of academic proficiency in a specific area

Educational assessments can help parents, teachers, and students gain a clearer understanding of how academic performance in the classroom impacts overall learning. The outcomes can also inform a teacher’s decision to offer advanced activities or accelerated learning opportunities in certain subjects.

Diagnose specific learning disorders, such as dyslexia or a reading or writing disability

Educational assessments can provide the necessary documentation for special accommodations, like having a scribe during formal school exams. They also help identify which learning skills can be strengthened according to the individual’s capabilities and offer strategies to manage areas of difficulty.

Support teachers and school counsellors in developing individualised education plans (IEPs)

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) outlines the child’s learning goals and the supports needed to achieve them. It includes the child’s strengths, needs, and progress, as well as necessary adjustments to support their overall development, behaviour, care, and social inclusion.

At Assessment Squared, we provide tailored educational assessments designed to help parents and teachers support a child’s learning at home and within the school setting.
